Thankful Hearts

There is always something to be thankful for! We at Simple Stitches have so much to be thankful for!  We have definitely been blessed to know each one of you.  We feel so lucky to be able to teach you the skills we know.  Hopefully you have caught the sewing bug like us.  It's a skill you can use the rest of your life!

So many people like to skip decorating for the Thanksgiving season.  We just can't overlook it and move on to Christmas just yet.  So, today we are sharing a few of our favorite Thanksgiving projects!

First is a paper pieced table runner. This technique consists of sewing pieces of fabric to a paper foundation.  The pieces of fabric are sewn onto the back side of this foundation.  This allows you to sew tiny pieces of fabric with great accuracy.  All it takes is sewing on lines in a number sequence.  Easy, right! Such a fun technique to master. The finished product is a beautiful piece!

Fall is a perfect time to pull out a quilt to wrap up in.  This quilt is no exception, with minky on the back, who wouldn't want one? This quilt is made using jelly rolls.  A really fun quilt to use up all those 2 1/2" strips laying around the sewing room.

Isn't this little guy the cutest thing you have ever seen?  Thanksgiving decorations are one of the hardest things to find. This little guy would be so fun to pull out every year.

Remember to this month to give thanks for all the many blessings you have.  They are everywhere!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Zippers!!

For so many people zippers are a scary thing to sew!  We are here to tell you, no need to fear!  We have so many projects that will teach you how to insert a zipper with ease!

Many of our students have mastered the skills of our Level 1 sewing projects and are moving on to Level 2.  This is so exciting for us to see our students progress and really take on a love of sewing! On Level 2, one of the skills they learn is zippers.  Here are a few samples of projects with zippers.

Who doesn't have an I-pad, Kindle, or some kind of electronic they carry around with them? This is the perfect project to protect those valuables.  With this I-pad cover, they will learn so many skills like putting in a zipper, binding, and quilting.  What a great project packed with different techniques!

This coin purse looks easy, but with the size of it, it's harder than it looks!  Putting a zipper in a small coin purse is the prefect way to keep all that spare change at bay.  What a fun, quick project to make for those summer days coming up when you need to throw your money in your swim bag for a days adventure!

And last, we have a fantastic new skirt that anyone will love!  It is packed with skill building techniques!  Learn how to make a flounce, flat felled seams, invisible zippers and facings.

Enjoy your day and  Happy Sewing!!

Spring is Coming!!

The last few days have felt so nice outside.  Not sure about you, but I am ready for Spring! With Spring in the air, it turns my thoughts to Spring sewing and Easter.  Don't leave your Easter sewing till the last minute. Skirts are such a fun way to try different fabric combinations.
What girl wouldn't love to wear one of these this Spring?

Today, we have a few skirt ideas for you!

The skirt above and the skirt below will give you lots of great practice with gathering and ruffles.  By the time your are finished, you will be a pro at gathering!
We have a few tricks to teach you on different ways to gather.

Maxi skirts are all the rage!  Our level two students are love to make these maxi skirts!  So many fun patterns to choose from.  Meg is modeling her maxi skirt, she is making her second one.
I'm thinking these skirts will be like chocolate, you can't have just one!

Last year we had sooo many girls go on trek!  It is that time again.  If you know you are going on trek, it is time to get cracking on your beautiful trek apron and bonnet!

Happy Sewing!
