First Annual Sewing Retreat Success!

Simple Stitches Sewing School had our 1st Annual Sewing Retreat! I had always dreamed of hosting a sewing retreat for a LONG time. Janette and I put that dream into motion, put in hours and hours of work, and the following is what it turned into!  We couldn't be happier with the outcome! We had 14 ladies join us for our maiden voyage and all of us had a blast! We arrived at My Girlfriends Quilt Shop Attic early on Thursday morning to set up and get everything ready to roll.  We love the space here and how much personal space you get when sewing.  Everyone had their own table this year which made it so nice!
As the ladies started showing up they were surprised with a box of our favorite things! (pincushion and frixon pens) They were in for so many surprises! Everyone started on their projects. Some ladies made the Bon Voyage bag that we were teaching. Most of them bought kits that we supplied (all the pieces came cut out...how nice is that?!)

Some ladies wanted to bring their own projects which is so fun! We love seeing what they are creating.   Many of these ladies made new friends by the end of the retreat!

See this design wall? We now want one for the sewing school! How nice is that to have it stick to the wall instead of crawling around on the floor?! My two girls joined us for the three day retreat. It was so much fun to have them there too! Molly was able to finish sewing all her blocks and design it on the wall.

On day two we started seeing ladies complete their bags.  Crazy how changing the fabrics changes the bag so much.  So neat to see their personalities come out in the finished project! We also had so many generous donations for prizes from Lou Lou's Fabric Shop (www.loulousfabricshop.com), Handmade Is Heartmade (@handmadeisheartmade on Instagram), Sew Sweetness (www.sewsweetness.com) and Patterns by Annie (byannie.com). We couldn't have spoiled our ladies with out them!

We were so thrilled with how this retreat turned out! We feel so lucky to have such a great support system. We are already thinking about the next sewing retreat and collecting projects and ideas! Many of you have asked to sign up for the next one.  Stay tuned...we will post it here and on our Instagram page (@simplestitchessewingschool) when sign ups are open.

We would love to have you on our next retreat! If you are interested and want to be put on the waiting list for sign ups, please send us an email! Spots filled up fast the first time, so don't wait!

Class Policies

Make up Classes:

If you know you will be absent, PLEASE call Janette or Myra 24 HOURS before, as a make-up time may be scheduled and the empty spot can be utilized.  Make-up classes may be offered during other class times. Your make-up class must be made up within 30 days from the date the class is missed. We will do our best to provide a make-up spot for your child. If the student can not attend one of the offered make-up classes, they will forfeit their tuition for the missed class. Unfortunately,
no prorating of tuition can be given due to absences of any kind.

No Shows:

The School CAN NOT offer makeup classes to No Shows!!  If you miss your scheduled makeup class, we can not reschedule. If a student no shows on their first scheduled class, their class will be cancelled.

Insufficient Funds:  If your tuition or project account check doesn't clear the bank, Simple Stitches School will charge an additional $25.00 fee to your amount due. If this occurs a second time, we will not accept a check and you will be required to pay with cash or a cashiers check.

Tuition

Classes for children are $52 per month for 4 one-hour sessions. If your class has a 5th week lesson, an extra $13 will be added to your tuition.
Classes for adults are $52 for 2 two-hour sessions and are held the 1st & 3rd weeks, or the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month.
Tuition is due at the beginning of every month.

Total tuition for the first month would be:
Sewing: $52 + $35 (yearly non-refundable supply fee) +
Project Account $30 = $112

Knitting: $52 (Students will bring and supply their own needles and yarn)

The following months would only be $52, unless there is a 5th week.

Supplies and Project Account Fees:

A newer Bernina sewing machine and sewing tools are provided for each student during class time.

There is a $35.00 per year non-refundable supply fee. The School supplies pins, scissors, needles, seam rippers, measuring devices, etc. This fee keeps these supplies available for all students.

There is a $30.00 deposit for each student's Project Account. Students use this like a debit account for purchasing project sewing kits, stuffing, elastic, etc. Parents will be notified monthly of the balance on their payment reminder. The Project Account must stay above $10. Students can choose from the Sewing School's selection of fabric for their projects or purchase fabric on their own.

Since all sewing projects are completed in class, it is not necessary for students to own a sewing machine or have access to one at home.

Pamper Yourself!

Is it spring yet? It seems like every January, Janette and I get the gardening bug and can't wait to see the bulbs peeking through the ground.  That is no where in sight today! Snow here in Utah is keeping us indoors for the most part. So to brighten up your day just a bit, here is a fun share! I made this shower curtain for our sewing school bathroom a few months back.  What is fun about this project is, it is made out of scraps from our students projects! We had saved two inch scraps from students projects for years until I finally had enough to make this colorful shower curtain to look like spools of thread! It's fun for us to see it and remember who made what project out of which fabric.  We love our students!

Next, we have some projects to help pamper yourself or someone you love! All of these make great gifts for birthdays, Mother's Day or even a BIG jump start on Christmas for this year. (It's never too early to start sewing for Christmas)

You know when you go on a fabulous trip, you do you hair with your curler and your flat iron and then you never know what to do with that hot iron?? Here is the perfect solution! This curler cover has heat resistant fabric on the inside.  You can slip your hot iron in this cover and throw it right in your bag! It's amazing and a fun quick project for even beginners. Give it a try!
This is a new project around here. This Mani Pouch is a great way to store your polish, clippers and files all in one place! Students will have the opportunity to use Annie's Soft and Stable, one of our favorite sew in foams.  It gives strength to this piece that will make it last a long time.  This little project is full of different techniques. Snaps, elastic, zippers, etc.  It's a fun project!

Last, we have our Bathroom Buddy! When traveling, what is worse than pulling your toothbrush out just to find hair from your comb in it? So gross, right?! This bag is a game changer! This project is great for our level two students. It is challenging, but oh so rewarding. This bag has 4 zippers creating 7 different compartments to store all the essentials. You will be so happy with this project.  It's a great piece!

Happy Sewing!
